The story of IRIS
Our beautiful BALI 4.1 Charter Catamaran

INCOMPARABLE BECAUSE IT’S UNIQUE!

In 2016, we, the Materns, a family of 4 - Peter, Silvia, Sofia (6) and Ellie (2) decided to follow their dream of buying a sail boat. And not just any sail boat, but explicitly a family comfortable boat with lots of space, luxury, comfort and safety without making any compromises. We did our research. We read reviews, blogs and travellers who sailed the world. There was no doubt. The most appropriate boat was a sailing catamaran, and not just any catamaran, but exactly a Bali catamaran.

Back in 2016, we test sailed the Bali 4.3, yet we couldn't not afford it. Not yet. Later on, our life and work situation developed as such that suddenly we could go for our dream. Our ultimate goal was to buy a catamaran and place it in a crewed charter program as owner operators. We have already done our research, we test sailed it, visited the Boat Expo in Duesseldorf, we led multiple negotiations with boat dealers until we found Mr. Rossen Ivanov from RAI YACHTING, Bulgaria! And voila...

In January 2019, we ordered our brand new Bali 4.1, and on 24.07.2019 we sailed it on our own from Cap Bonn-Tunisia to Lefkada, Greece. An epic journey of Iris, which you can learn about in the SAILING IRIS blog that I will publish and update regularly. Then on August 1, 2019 our kids Sofia (9) and Ellie (5) joined us for a 750 miles journey from the Ionian to Aegean sea with island hopping in Meganisi, Ithaka, Keffalonia, Zakintos, passing through the Corrint Channel, Poros, Kea, the bridge of Chalkida, Northern Sporades, Chalkidiki, Thassos, and all the way to our final destination and berth port Kavala. Read all about our journey here >>

Now, Iris is berthed in Kavala, Greece and will start chartering in April 2020. Our routes will take you on 3 and 4-day sailing trips to Thassos in April and October 2020, weekly trips to Samothraki and Limnos in May 2020, weekly trips to Chalkidiki and the Northern Sporades - Kyra Panagia, Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonnisos in June, July, August and September 2020.

Why BALI Catamaran
Because BALI 4.1 is the Most Beautiful and Comfortable Sailing Boat

INCOMPARABLE BECAUSE IT’S UNIQUE!

Designed by Olivier Poncin and Catana’s R&D department, the BALI 4.1 Maxi Lounge is characterised by very ergonomic living spaces which are entirely free of bulkheads. The BALI 4.1 is also the first catamaran in this size to offer a large forward cockpit with sunbathing area, a relaxation area on the upper deck providing breath-taking views, a platform linking the two hulls with wide bench seat aft as well as a level of comfort worthy of a much larger catamaran. And of course, the safety and performance you would expect from a CATANA design!

The vast cockpit / saloon area, which completely opens up with a huge pivoting glazed door. The very seaworthy integral foredeck area that provides rigidity and protection from spray with a very large sunbathing area and a forward cockpit which can comfortably accommodate the whole crew. The raised helm station and very convivial fly bridge. Retracting or sliding windows for optimal ventilation both at sea and at anchor. Water and diesel tankage, and cool capacity superior to those of all their competitors. The BALI 4.1 additionally offers: A new integral aft platform linking the two hulls. New bench seating in the aft cockpit. Large side lockers which can house a grill or scuba equipment.
